“Women can be heroes. The world may not see us that way, but we know our own strength."
When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself.
The Women by Kristin Hannah comes highly recommended by Alexa Hinton, co-host of the Now What? Not Another 20-Something's Podcast. When I spoke to Alexa about the story and making a drink for it, she mentioned making something tropical and sweet. Inspired by that idea, The Woman's Martini is a tropical, mango-infused delight—sweet, bold, and not to be underestimated, just like the women in this story.
